About NSE-14

Near-Space Expedition 14 (NSE-14) is the first integrated flight test of the ArduSat payload. The purpose of the mission is to test the payload as a whole, test the ability to remotely log and transmit data, verify that we can upload and execute new applications, and see how the system responds to the low-pressure, low temperature environment. It will also give us some limited testing of the response of the system to single-event radiation issues like latchups and bitflips.

ArduSat will be carried to an altitude of approximately 100,000 feet using a standard weather balloon. The entire flight is expected to last around 4 hours, after which the balloon will rupture, descend using a parachute, and be recovered.

During the flight, live video and data will be downlinked from the balloon and streamed online, as well as video from mission control and commentary as the tests proceed. We will also be hosting a live chat on our website, where anyone can log in to ask questions or post comments in real-time!
